The five premier, academy and Non-Binary/Women's team titles chosen by RecWell for the 2024-2025 season are upward in collegiate program participation, administrative backing and player count. UMD Esport Teams will play in the BIG ESPORTS CONFERENCE, NECC, cLoL, cVal, Nace and CCA for the season.

Several other popular titles such as CS:GO, DOTA 2, Smite, COD, PUBG, Smash Bros and Apex are played recreationally plus competitively on a club level by members of the Student Government Association (SGA) Gaming Clubs.
We always looking for talented students to join our Premier Teams. Premier Team players must be a currently admitted full time degree seeking student at the University of Maryland College Park. Current students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 at the end of each semester. Our esports program does not informally guarantee positions, partial or full scholarships to premier esport players. Our esports program does not influence the University admissions process.
Application Process:
- Fill out our Interest Form.
- Follow all of our accounts including Twitter, Instagram, Twitch and YouTube.
- Join our Discord server and introduce yourself in the “Ask a Recruiter” channel.
- We may reach out you regarding a future seasonal tryout.
Can I tryout for multiple game titles?
Yes. As long as you meet the rank requirements for each title, you may try out for as many as you would like.
What will be the tryout format?
Formatting for each trial will be title specific and dependent on interest. Coaches should have more info for you closer to the tryout date.
What does "Open" mean?
Tryouts with an "Open" rank requirement are open to ALL skill levels. If you have interest in an open title, show up, you never know!
What are Game Changers teams?
Following the model set by Riot Games, we have created our Game Changers teams to create a safe, competitive environment to all students who identify with marginalized genders. This year, we will attempt to field Game Changers teams in both Valorant and our new entry, ROCKET LEAGUE!!!
What if I can't make any of the listed tryout sessions?
Pro staff and coaches will have information on how to register for a last-chance trial during the beginning of the semester. This is to try and create one last set of fall trials for those that can't make it, or may be learning of the program later than the first tryout sessions!
What happens after the tryout?
If you are selected to be on a team, you will undergo scrims/training with your team throughout the beginning of August to test team cohesion with your coach. NO TEAM SLOTS ARE FINAL UNTIL THE CONCLUSION OF MAKEUP TRIALS.
Are scholarships available for players?
Terps Esports will not have scholarships for the 2024-2025 season!
What if I am not CURRENTLY the requested rank?
Players are eligible to meet the rank requirement if they are ranked at the requested level within two previous seasons, acts, episodes, etc. If you submit a form requesting a tryout and do not fit this bill, we will not be permitting you to tryout for said team.
Tryouts for Fall 2024 occured between July 22 - Aug 3rd, 2024.
